"Hoops for Haiti"

NCBOA member Mike Wong teamed up with Lincoln High School girls varsity basketball team coach to provide officials who volunteered their time for basketball tournament this past week end to raise funds for the earthquake victims in Haiti.  Over $1,000 was raised from this event to support victims from this disaster that we are all too familiar with.  Some of your NCBOA colleagues who volunteered their officiating expertise were: Mike Wong,  Donald Lee, David Lee, Ray Hom, Warren Doo, Sean Engmann, Dave Djanikian, Randy Wong, Eric Tow, Rennie Owyang, Wellington Wong, Tami Cherolis, Marco Wan and Todd Zeo.  To read more about this event, see the article posted in the Examiner at:

"Thousands Grab Ropes to Jump into the Record Books"

In today's Bay Area section of the San Francisco Chronicle is an article about 200 students at the San Francisco School who were participating in a challenge to see if they could "jump" their way into the Guinness Book of World Records for jumping rope.  Collectively participating with them were  85,000 others at 2,000 different schools in the Bay Area and California; attempting to break the record collectively set by 43,772 jumper in Britain, set in June.  Wether they beat the record as it will take weeks to verify all the data, San Francisco School physical education teacher, Gilbert Bagaman, our own NCBOA member, pronounced the event a great success and good exercise.  To read more about this story and maybe even see a picture of San Francisco School Athletic Director and NCBOA member, Tiffany Fong wrestling with putting away 200 jump ropes, see the article at:

"NCBOA Officials Join Other and Go Pink"

Many NCBOA officials participated in the annual "Calling for a Cure.",  a benefit to support the Kay Vow WBCA Cancer fund.  Kicked off by our NCBOA President, Eric Madia, Several officials went pink on January 29th and 30th as a way to join others in the officiating community to support this worthy cause.  If you participated in this event by either donating a portion of your game fee or using a pink whistle, please let us know!  See the NCBOA website for more information and the following article from women's eye on sports:
